Vacation FTW

I just want all of you to know that my vacation was fucking awesome. That is all.

Still Alive

So, school’s finally over and I’m going on vacation in a few days, but nothing much else. I might have a reason to post next week.

Classes

Well, I’ve received my “Declaration of Intent for Enrollment in Classes” form. It’s due… tomorrow. My classes next year are: Spanish II, Journalism/Writing, Freshman English, College Algebra, Stats, General Chemistry, and a semester each of Economics and American Government.

It’s time for SCRIPT FRENZY!

Time for Script Frenzy (see link in left sidebar)! No I don’t know what mine’s about yet. That’s no fun, is it? See you in May!

A quick recap from the Federal Republic of Germany about TSMUN

First, wake up at six-thirty in the bloody morning and get a damn suit on. Then get into the car (in the rain) and sit on the far edge of the seat away from the leaky sunroof. Pick someone else up and drive to the capitol (with my mother complaining the whole time, either about being late or about how I look). Get into the parking garage, then walk down the street in the cold rain (at least there’s an umbrella!) to the capitol. Wait at the bottom of the steps until finally convincing my mother to go up the stairs. Go up all those stairs, then go wait in the area between security and the entrance for other people from my school.

A few finally show up, so go through security. Put a few things from my pockets to my bag of stuff and send it through the x-ray. Walk through the metal detector and have it set off by the belt buckle. Get wanded, wait around some more, get sent down the hall, wait more, go up to the fourth floor. Wait around for a long time while everyone else is getting breakfast on the twenty-second floor. Neither the option of taking the elevator nor walking up all those stairs sounds good. Finally people come down. The breakfast delivery I was told to expect was not delivered. Ah well, not that important; I normally don’t eat breakfast anyway, so it’s just an unexpected change.

Go to the House Chamber for opening ceremonies, then move to a seat nearer the front since the GA is meeting in here. Have a roll call, then move to open the speaker’s list (I was not the one to make this mistake). I get added sixth. This is good. Someone moves for agenda 2,1; I move for 1,2. Since 2,1 was voted on first, it passed. Now… great, now we have to reset the speakers list because people didn’t know what they were going to talk about.

Writing

Well, I’ve decided to give up on the weekly words thing. It’s just too hard to seek out new words. However, I’m instead working on writing more. This week, I’m making myself write at least 2500 words, but I’ll add more each week until I’m more than ready for NaNoWriMo. Oh, right. I’m doing that this year. If I fail at it, you may all deliver the requisite mocking.

This. This is why I hate people.

This is replying to a Canadian Post article.

Little or no grammar teaching, cellphone texting, social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, all are being blamed for an increasingly unacceptable number of post-secondary students who can’t write properly.

It’s perfectly possible to know and use both informal textspeak and proper English. Anyone who thinks otherwise simply hasn’t tried.

For years there’s been a flood of anecdotal complaints from professors about what they say is the wretched state of English grammar coming from some of their students.

Many anecdotes do not good evidence make.

More Words!

Another week, another wordlist. I’m making it ten words, instead of twenty, since I’ve learned that finding twenty words is simply too much work for me to willingly keep up weekly.

Gmail Keyboard Shortcuts: They’re Not Everywhere

I was on NationStates checking my telegrammes, and I tried to delete one by pressing ‘e’, as if I were archiving email on Google. Damn lack of keyboard shortcuts.

Illness

Fuck last week. I spent half the week panicking about school, only to be ill and unable to show up. Let’s pretend it didn’t happen.

I’m trying over on the words and books, too.
